Ashaway is currently one of the best places to live in the Ocean State. Employment opportunities within 5 miles of this community are in some aspect of healthcare and its support services: Physician, nurses, physical therapist, computer support, database technologist, pharmacy assistants, teachers and much more.

The town of Ashaway is just north of Westerley and very close to the Connecticut state line. It is merely a hop, skip and jump to the Connecticut Route 95 ramp onto the interstate highway. At the last count, there were roughly 2,000 residents.

The terrain is fairly flat with the highest point measuring 62 feet above sea level. Because of its location, terrain and small town atmosphere, Ashaway has gained popularity as one of the BEST places to live in Rhode Island.

Land area of Ashaway is just a bit more than 2 square miles and the location just north of Westerly dictated an all-volunteer fire department. Complimenting these services is the Ashaway Ambulance Association, Inc.

Ashaway also has a free public library and 5 schools: Ashaway Elementary School, the Central Nursery School, St. Pius X, Springbrook Elementary School and Tower Street School. It is also home to the Westerly High School and the Westerly Junior High School.

Of the six largest cities in the Ocean State, the most desirable and popular urban community in Rhode Island is the city of Cranston. It is ranked #8 out of 37 cities and towns in the state and has a population of approximately 82,000 people. Cranston is ranked third of the six cities in this state.

The city of Cranston is actually considered part of the larger metropolitan area of Providence. It is located just south - and inland - of the capital city. Despite its location, Cranston has 3.5 miles of shoreline on the narrow inlet where the Providence River becomes Narragansett Bay. Cranston’s boundaries touch Warwick and West Warwick on the south and Scituate to the west. The size of this geographical area is 28.2 square miles.

There are 31,000 households in Cranston, which has a median household income of $45,000. With the Governor’s new mandate for physical fitness, there should be no problem finding fun exercise in Cranston. The push is on for a healthy Rhode Island population and Cranston has all its bases covered.

Cranston has six branches of The Central Library spread around the city. Schools are serving an 11,155 student population: 18 Public Elementary Schools, 4 Private, Elementary Schools, 3 Public Middle Schools, 5 Private (K-8) Schools, 3 Public High Schools and 2 Private Vocational Education Schools.

Essential services are available and staffed. There are six fire stations that responded to more than 13,000 emergency calls last year. Cranston is the leader in the development and operation of metropolitan rescue services. It also sponsors fire prevention safety education, investigations, fire code compliance activities. The Alarm Division is responsible for maintaining communications between the dispatch center and the point of alarm. Their staff maintains the telephone system as well as the main computer and its network.

The Cranston Police Department is a comprehensive 152 member department that provides service in all specialties of crime, crime prevention, court duties, traffic, accident response, criminal detention and criminal investigations. They have a support staff of 52 civilian full and part time employees. The Animal Shelter and Animal Control are mostly volunteer staffed who are supervised by the Cranston Police Department.
